A better, more correct description of the More Snow that follows Warm Ocean and open Arctic
This is from Tom Wysmuller, who first taught me about Climate and Ewing and Donn Theory

A greater than usual September open Arctic allows "ocean effect" snows to be dragged into northern Asia earlier in the year than usual.  Albedo effects of these snowfalls cool the region, strengthening the Arctic High, and allows the polar high pressure to advance further to the south, cooling things down as it does.  The expansion of the polar high eventually allows its associated cold fronts to reach the Anatolian Peninsula, where Black Sea and Mediterranean moisture can get picked up by a low pressure cell and combine to deposit snow on Egypt and the Holy Land, and that is exactly what happened last winter.  The moisture source was not the Arctic, although the prior  "ocean effect" activity set up the trigger for what followed!
